Patina offers a two-room guesthouse and a gallery that merge into an evolving whole. Artistic objects and creations exhibited in the gallery hold a final destination in the guesthouse.

Lies Mertens designs (vegan) leather bags under her eponymous label. She has long dreamed of a place to unite her interests under one roof. Her design philosophy centres around transparency and sustainability. The interior of Patina has been created by utilising existing materials and reusing them. This is why the guesthouse and gallery are called Patina.

Patina is a general term to indicate that a particular object has stood the test of time. A material, such as leather, acquires a patina layer through weather and use, enhancing the material's markings.

For the interior of Patina, Lies Mertens joined forces with young, Belgian design duo Astrid Venlet & Iona Tettelin.
